As per usual, possible spoiler alert etc, but really I don't know much about the plot except what I've seen from the two trailers.
Firstly, the title. I'm gathering, with regards to film titles, Dark is the new black. In recent years, we have had The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Dark Shadows, Transformers Dark of the Moon, Dark Tide and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. Coming soon is Thor The Dark world, Zero Dark Thirty and Dark Skies. Phew. Turn the light on, somebody! As to plot, I'm still not quite sure. I have heard one theory that the villain is Khan, others say it will be Gary Mitchell. It's hard to say from the trailers. I'm glad all the original actors are back, but then again they probably all had signed contracts. Still, who wouldn't want to be in a ST movie? Anyway, I look forward to people's responses. Haven't seen the trailer yet? Try looking in IMDB. |

Very mixed feelings about the JJA-Trek universe. The trailer looks good, but the previous movie had such a mix of unreal holes along with the good stuff...I just don't know.
Also, I don't see anything wrong with Space Seed or TWOKhaaaaannnn! And it was my favorite original cast movie. I was hoping they'd go for something totally new. That said, I will probably rent it when it's available. -- I did like the good parts of the reboot a lot. |

With the thread of Khan traveling through the series from the original series, it's not out of the question. It would be interesting to see Dr. Soong in JJ's universe! Did he help create the genetic renegades, or steal them? Hmmm...! If the story is not about Singh and Soong, these threads have the makings of story, here! |

What about Sang and Song and Sung?
(Very sorry, couldn't resist the pun quip.) But point taken. If they have a good new take on Khan Noonian Singh (and possibly Dr. Soong) then a good story is worth telling. Definitely a good character, at least Ricardo Montalban's take on the character was magnetic. I will watch the new movie, though it may have to wait for a rental. I still have mixed feelings about some of the things in the first reboot movie: cadet to captain in one giant step, red matter and black hole weapon, mostly. On the other hand, I liked several things too. If someone besides Leonard Nimoy has to play Spock, then well, Zachary Quinto did a fine job, I thought. I would've liked to have seen more of some other new things from the reboot. So we'll see. I would *also* very much like to see Star Trek continue to stay true to what makes Star Trek what it is. Yes, there's room for change and refitting for today's and future audiences. If that means a conscious line and reboot along another line, or if that continues the TOS and TNG before and after continuity, then either way might do for good Trek storytelling. I'd like to see what Renegades will be. I'd like to see more from fan productions. As long as the storytelling's good and it doesn't become something unrecognizable as Star Trek, then I'm game to check it out. |
