The USS Enterprise has returned home to Norfolk for her last time. In order to remove the reactors, the ship will be mostly gutted, then scrapped as there won't be much left of her when they remove the reactors. The Navy will soon be without an Enterprise for the first time in over 50 years. The very thing that made this Enterprise such a historic milestone, has ironically sealed her fate as she cannot become a Museum Ship with Nuclear Materials on board. A sad day for the Navy, and for Trek fans as the ship NCC-1701 got her name from will meet such an unfitting end.

As Picard once said, "Let us make sure history never forgets the name, Enterprise!

I'm sure there'll be another one before too long. If not in the US navy then in someone else's.

It's not the ship that matters, but the name. It will live on. I believe it so; ST may be just a show, but it a vision I aspire to.

Watched the deactivation ceremony online. The secretary of the Navy confirmed that there will be a new Enterprise and it will be CVN-80! At least the name will carry on, though I've heard the island from CVN-65 might be saved and preserved as a museum/memorial.
