Well...I'd been waiting for Rob or Simon to respond as they were the writers...but as they haven't, I will, having a copy of the script, having talked to Rob about it and considering Henglaar, M.D. goes past the timeframe of the movie.... The answer is...yes, the Hobus event is prevented - in this timeline, Odyssey is able to undo the SFZ that would have otherwise caused it. It might differ from the "prime timeline", but HF has pretty much done that since Insurrection came out. That means Spock Lives!!!! |

I'm late replying but I wanted to say congratulations on the final film to Rob, the cast and crew across the run of HF.
Brandon McConnell & Michelle Laurent had great chemistry as the Ro and sub-commander. I was very glad to see Dr Henglaar again. I found it more satisfying than ends of at least the last two broadcast Trek series. The musical score was excellent. This post has been edited by dru: Oct 15 2011, 11:08 PM |

I have some thoughts on the comments so far - specifically relating to plot being without solid direction, in some cases rushed, flat, and with the occasional plot device - but I'd like to really do them justice. Let me just say for now that I get where those comments are coming from and in some cases see them myself. The only comment I've really disagreed with in my own opinion was the return of Odyssey to the milky way - this was one of the few elements in the film that was untouched in the script editing room and I feel it does the show justice in the sacrifices it took to get there.
Before I finalize my comments and make a longer post, I'd just mention that the original plan when we wrote each series' seasons two was that both Helena and Odyssey would get a three episode season each, with a wrap up to follow that. Given that an entire season was cut as the money ran out to nothing, we landed ourselves in some rather sticky plot areas that we'd otherwise not have had, and things could have developed to their more natural and more thought-out conclusions. And in trying to condense all of those into one script, even with a lot of cutting at that point, turned into a 200+ page script which would have come to over three hours. And even Titanic, for all its glory, was excessively long at the same time mark. None of this is, of course, excuse or a beg for mercy, but hopefully gives a little background to those who have watched and come to conclusions. We did, of course, strive to make the best that we could with the given elements and restrictions. This post has been edited by Beo: Oct 16 2011, 05:47 PM |

Something in particular that I appreciated about the finale is how the villain Seram is still alive at the end. In all the TNG movies and in the 2009 Star Trek movie, each villain is "simply" killed off. I think it's more complex and more satisfying when writers choose to keep the villains alive – not just to fight another day, but because there has been a measure of growth and change. I don't know how much Seram herself has changed, but our general outlook on the Archein has developed over the course of Odyssey's run. Perhaps achieving some sort of reconciliation is more satisfying because that's more true to real life: Having someone meet a fateful end typically is not an option in any of our personal or professional relationships, regardless of how bitter or antagonistic they have become! So thank you, Rob & co., for choosing to take the plot in the direction you did.
PS: I'm reminded of this quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln... "Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?" |

I finally watched it last night along with the audio prequel. All I can say is WOW. Rob and company did an excellent job wrapping up the various threads from the various series as well as continue with the ongoing HF series.
I felt like the end of an era, but an excellent one. Congrats to everyone for the entertainment. |
