The Federation One model was designed by Sean Tourangeau and built by Philip Hogg.
Check out the Designing Federation One gallery for some pre-production artwork during the design and construction of Federation One. Sean may also post additional design work on his website, and be by to answer questions and commentary on the new ship. Feel free to discuss! Rob |

So was this design part of the discussion several months ago about removing the third nacelle... so you could include the "Diplomatic Pod" ? And is the Pod something that is detachable (e.g., could be left in orbit or could land on a planet to serve as a base for the diplomatic negotiations), or is it more of a functional add-on to the basic structure of the starship? Thanks, Rick |

Thanks, Rick Rick I think you are confusing the Excelisior redesign and this new ship. If you look at some of the designes for the "Diplomatic Pod" it has Nacelles on it, so I assume it me be able to detacht. 1st it makes sense to have that ability to take a smaller ship and land. 2nd, I want to see the cool cgi effect of it dettaching and attaching. |

It's detachable and it's warp capable and landing capable.
The President will use it to ferry back and forth from planet to ship as well as special missions. It's about the size of a Defiant Class. Rob |

I remember the preview pic with this ship being escorted by a Luna-class. Very cool. It makes sense the UFP would have something like this.

Very cool. I want one. Heh, I've long wanted a fleet made up of one of every Starfleet ship... This would be just another addition to that fleet for me... On a serious note, love the designs, particularly seeing the evolution of Federation One (Is that the actual name of the ship, instead of USS 'Something-or-other'?). |

Hmm interesting. I had already planned a episode of Endeavour to be featuring the Federation Presidents vessel, which is called "Starfleet One" which would be more in keeping with the Earth tradition of using the title "Airforce One". Of course that is a TOS era so who knows.

I had already planned a episode of Endeavour to be featuring the Federation Presidents vessel, which is called "Starfleet One" which would be more in keeping with the Earth tradition of using the title "Airforce One". Of course that is a TOS era so who knows. Yeah I was also wondering why it wasn't starfleet one. In the US the Presdient's Transportation is One preceeded by the branch. Also It only has the title one the president is one that vehicle. So if you kept that tradition the ship would still have it's on name, and become starfleet one, when the president comes on board. Air Force One - Is usually one of two planes for the president, but can be any Air Foce transport the President is on. Marine One - Is usually the helicopter that flies the president. Navy One - Only been used once when George W. Bush Flew to the carrier and the sign behind him declared "Mission Accomplished" Army One - Not used much now, but the Army use to fly the president in helicopter before the marines took over mid 70s. There is a famous picture of Nixon right after his resignation on Army One. It was still army one, and actually while he was mid flight on Air Force One it converted to its non presidential call sign as Ford took the oath, while Nixon was in Flight. Executive One - Is the call sign if a commerical vehicle is used, this only has happened once when Nixon flew United Airlines. Coast Guard One - Has not happened yet Cadillac One - The informal name of the Presidential Limo (cars don't have call signs) Though in the Federation universe there doesn't appear to be branches of service so I can see the more generic term of Federation. |

I think you'd find that would be the case in most countries not just the US.
But yes I personally always thought it should have been Starfleet One. Since I don't think the SF Marince Corp would have ships of their own SFMC One would have to possibly be some sort of "hopper" (mentioned in DS9 episode) or something maybe. Since VOY introduced us to the Federation Naval Service there could still feasibly be a Navy One. |

When we flew Stephen home from rehab at the Betty Ford Clinic last year, I believe AirTran or Southwest Airlines redesignated as Otter One for the duration.... but I digress.

While the Air National Guard designated it as Target Otter. I was thinking. Perhaps the still have Starfleet One. Federation One is the ship that normally carries the President, but if he boards another Starship it's designation becomes Starfleet One. So you have both. |

But the ships name will be explained in OBS. So fear not, we've thought of all this stuff. Remember, we're Trek geeks too. Rob |
