With Operation Beta Shield going into pre-release on October 2nd, we're kicking off the countdown to "Unity" with a introduction to a new cast member of Federation One every week!
We're starting with series lead, Lt. Cmdr. Matt McCabe (Wayne Webb) and then will work our way back up toward the top of the cast list for the premiere. ![]() We all know him from 5 years of Hidden Frontier as the tough, yet emotionally outspoken Chief of Security of the USS Excelsior. More back-story on McCabe can be found in the Hidden Frontier Encylopedia. QUOTE McCabe joined the crew of the Excelsior under orders from Commander Tolian Naros in 2379, due to his preliminary investigations into the Patch artifacts ("Modus Operandi"), that he had helped discover while onboard the USS Independence under Commodore Cole. Ambitious, he had his eyes on the available First Officer position, just after his reassignment, but instead settled into the position of Security Chief. After battling some severe emotional problems after the loss of his friend, Andrew Barrett, to enemy forces, McCabe has finally gotten back on an even keel, after he helped with the return on Barrett. McCabe has a fiery personality that he takes with him to work. His duty and his honor, especially to his friends and comrades makes McCabe a formidable opponent and champion of justice. As Operation Beta Shield opens, McCabe is Chief of Security aboard the USS Excelsior. However by the end of the 75 minute film, McCabe will be assigned to the Federation's diplomatic flagship, Federation One as Head of Presidential Security. The "how" and "why" will be revealed in the film which serves as a prelude to the Federation One series. The series itself is an experiment in cross-genre co-mingling. The concept for a show set against the politics of the Federation and its executive office draws its inspiration from shows like The West Wing, a popular political drama that ran from 1996-2006. The question is, can a show that focuses on politics, character interaction, and spoken drama be successfully combined with action, adventure, and space exploration? Star Trek already embodies many of the tools used by shows like The West Wing. We hope to find a successful mix of two. Operation Beta Shield will go into wide release sometime after October 2nd. Federation One's first episode, "Unity" is currently being scored by Daniel Chan and is scheduled for sneek peek release in our chat room on October 29th. Look for a new character to be introduced every week leading up the premiere! Enjoy! Rob |

Nice bio Rob. Good way to snare all the little fishes here in the sea.
Of course you must start off with the main man but make sure you have plenty of flowers and banners for a certain lovely lady. Nice to hear that OBS will be coming soon and look forward to its release along with Unity. Kudos. |

This week we introduce Science Intern, Mara Onshul (Heather Ashliegh)!
![]() Onshul graduated from a science academy on Vrijheid IV. She was assigned to intern for Secretary of Science, Yan Vorin, however for reasons unknown has been recently assigned to serve as Matt McCabe's assistant. McCabe's dis-trust of Vrijheidians leads to some conflict between the two. McCabe and Onshul's thinking and ideals are polar opposites. But both are committed to the Federation and its principals. We'll learn more about Onshul's past in Federation One's second episode. Rob |

Wow, these new characters look cool... and though I can't seem to put my finger on it.. it seems like they are somehow familiar to me... but I guess that is just silly. But still...

This week we spotlight Admiral Selek. (David O'Neill).
Selek is Starfleet's top Admiral (He's a four pipper) aboard Federation One and advises the president on military matters. Selek also has jurisdiction over Starfleet Intelligence and other branches of Starfleet proper. He is a soft-spoken, yet powerful man.
