We now know from seeing Odyssey's season 3 title sequence that Excelsior and Commodore Shelby will most likely be included in the show. Where do we think Shelby's allegiance will lie? With Starfleet or the Helena crew? Will she carry out orders to hunt them down and stop them by any means necessary or will her heart guide her decisions over the fate of her old crew?

Well, the question isn't really what side she's one, because Helena has surrendered to Starfleet. IF starfleet was still hunting them, I think Shelby would go after them, but not destroy them. I can more than see your point however, even though Fiesel sent out a call of surrender we didn't actually see them get arrested or such. Helena is included in season 3 of Odyssey which suggests they don't get taken into custody by Starfleet. We even see Helena travelling through what seems to be a slipstream corridor. Helena is in a bad way, they have ran out of resources and are heavily damaged. I think Commodore Shelby intercepts the Helena before any other Starfleet vessel and either helps Her with repairs or defends her from the other Starfleet Ships. Probably just from Maxwell though. In saying all that (and in taking your point into account) i guess a more probable story line is that at the same time Helena is being caught up with, all starfleet ships are called on to defend Romulus from the new Archien invasion. Fiesal begs Command to let her help stop the invasion as they need all the ships that they can muster. Starfleet Command agrees due to the circumstances and when Helena catches up with the battle Corey persuades Fiesal to take Helena into the Archein wormhole. If not just to find Nevin and the Odyssey but as a desperate attempt to destroy the wormhole generating technology. I think i just took my own topic off topic, whoops... lol |

That does sound like a more reasonable theory of events to come. Either way, this is going to be an amazing season.

I does bear mentioning that just because Risha is on the titles, there's no guarantee that she'll be playing Shelby. It's likely, but not guaranteed.

I would think that given Shelby's position and rank in the fleet any action she takes to go out of her way to help Helena would take away from the efforts to defend the Beta Quadrant from a future Archein attack. After all, provided nothing new has happened, she continues to be the task force commander there.
EDIT: Plus, given recent events with fingers pointed at Helena, even if they didn't do it with all of their illegal research efforts it could go either way with how Shelby would feel. This post has been edited by NewLondenion: Jan 23 2010, 07:20 PM |

judging by the scene with dao and faisel on the bridge alone in HC 2.03 the surrender signal was a fake

I just love suppositions regarding the "loyal" members of Starfleet. Somehow though I think the Helena would be taken into custody and some sort of hearing is given but since Fiesal is the captian, she will more likely take the fall. After all the captain is responsible fo rht e ship and crew.

if you ask me
on operation beta shield between shelby and hunter shelby was literally torn between loyalties and like star trek IV they'll come back and show their results of the andromeda galaxy and will probably be given a type of pardon for these incidents

Spotting this thread, there is one thing no one has raised yet that could have a personal bearing on Shelby's attitude / feelings about Helena's actions...
The death of Commander Lefler. - Robin had friends on Excelsior, Odyssey and Federation One at the time of her death. In Opy Beta Shield, Commadore Shelby held out hope, as well as asking Admiral Rand to let Excelsior co-ordinate the search. It will be interesting and heartbreaking to see Shelby's reaction to the news her closest friend (with the exception of Captain Hunter) is now dead.
