Tell me if I am wrong, but I was to believe that the first episode (or pilot/movie) was to be recorded on video, and continued on as audio.

You would be correct. The first movie would be "The Price of Duty" which is currently being scored/sound edited by Bodo Hartwig (last I heard, anyways).  The series is currently planned to be continued in audio, starting with ANG 2.01, "Duty's Betrayal".

the original 1997 movie is being remastered for re-release this year, that is correct.

The first (hopefully of many!) audio episode of Voyages of the U.S.S. Angeles is in final post-production! Keep your eyes out for the release date!
