hello everybody.
i am the composer for the helena chronicles. Since we're coming up to release, as a publicity effort and a reward for everyones patience, i decided to make and release a special track consisting of a theme from the show, and the shows title theme.
The track can be obtained here
http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6072895low fi or hi fi, it opens a little window and plays the track for you in the player.
it's called a bonus track, because the track itself doesn't appear in the show, this is the only place you can get it as a special reward for being fans of hf.
cheers

Matt --
Just checking... that was just a bonus track, and in a few weeks, you and Rob will release a copy of the official HC theme (and maybe some other tracks from HC?) Or did I miss something already?
Thanks for the clarification.

I have to say I loved the music! Thank you for that treat. The only question I had was the track that the link was for is apparently the Love Theme. You stated the shows title theme too. Was that a mistake or is there a link to that as well?
Keep up the great work!!!!

I'm confused to as to what exactly this piece of music is...I'm guessing a re-worked and/or extended version of the show's actual theme, but whatever the case, it's a beautiful composition and we'll have the answer in a couple of weeks when HC's pilot is released.
Thanks for posting this, Matt. I quite like all the music you've made available on SoundClick. I can't whistle any of it or seem to hold it in my head, but I can say the same for most of the stuff on the various Star Trek movie soundtracks.
When I listen to your stuff, I get mental imagery of soaring-eagle-eye-view over some fantasy kingdom, or long shots of smokey battlefields from an American Civil War movie. So I'm looking forward to learning to associate this style with scenes from Fan Trek.

Get the BugMeNot Firefox extension to get around crappy registration requirements like that easily:

i forgot you had to register to download, i'll remove the download option.
if you want a copy you can use a recording program like windows sound recorder to keep it.
The main piece is the show's love theme, the show theme itself is quoted, allbeit briefly, at 2.33 until the end.
brian, i can promise you that by the end of the first season, just about everyone will be humming the love theme, and the show's theme. Film themes can't be instantly hummable as the more they are played, the faster they loose their charm. And the shows love theme appears several times in just one scene. The shows theme itself appears at least 30 times in some form directly, and hundreds of times in short quotes (as part of other pieces) in the course of the first episode.
i digress from topic

Thanks Michael, that's a good one. I'm wondering if there has ever been one that got a bit more technical (i.e. using a particular piece of software, success stories, etc.) as I studied composition in the last century... WELL back into the last century! Up until a year or two ago, I was still writing my work by hand!
Anyhow, it is lovely to hear these works. I look forward to more.

Not that I've spotted but there seems to be a community of musicians starting to form now :)

If you'd like a technical post scoring analysis thread, then i think i could do that. There's a lot of good musicians out there, if we could all find a way into the biz, things would be so much better in hollywood.

JGS Matt! You've inspired me. I've done some scoring of minor plays for my schools and church, but NOTHING to match this level of original composition.

Hey Matt (apparently we're on a first name basis)
I was curious what samplers / software you used to produce this music? It says on your page you used EWQLSO Platinum, but I wasn't sure if that applied to "The Helena Chronicles" as well. I love the show's theme, it has a real majestic sound to it, without sounding too fanfare-ish. I bought the EWQLSO Gold bundle a couple months ago...and can't use it because I've got an Intel mac :bulb: (I didn't read the fine print) I hope it's not too much to ask, but do you know of any way I can use it without
a. waiting for PLAY to be released
b. buying Kontakt 2 or 3
Of course, if it's all a trade secret, I understand.

PS. It's my first HC Forums post...this is exciting stuff.

welcome to the forums andrew.
you need a sampler that can read the nks files. kontact is designed to work with those samples (platinum comes with its own kontact player)
Unfortunately the tool is designed for sound engineers and i ain't one of them, so i can only reccomend that you look at the forum for any help information, invest in kontact or a similar sampler (gigastudio is said to work well too) or e-mail the help desk with the option of returning. You're gonna need a sampler anyway for whatever samples you buy in the future whether from east west or others, so far option 2 looks best.
sorry i couldn't be of any useful help.
by the by the only place you'll get that title track is my site, or hc101. it will not appear in any other episodes.

I knew about the .nks files, I was just thrown off when I opened up Kore (a free sampler download I got via e-mail...too bad they didn't send an Aston Martin too) and it asked me to register EWQL...I didn't just in case it might create any problems in the future (I'd like to use the Play version...when it's finally released)...it just got me wondering if I could use anything else to play them in the meantime. Oh well...I'll probably just wait for Play. Thanks though! And thanks for the welcome.
