Filming began this past Saturday on Odyssey episode 102, "The Wine Dark Sea", written and directed by Beo Fraser. At the first shoot was Ross King, the LA correspondent for GMTV as well as Entertainment anchor for the local CW station in Los Angeles. While we have not heard of it running on CW, there is always a chance it will be picked up by the affiliate.
There is a
You Tube version of the segment online, as well as a quicktime version which is available on our
Download Mirrors. In addition to interviewing the cast and crew, Ross King also took on a small role in the episode alongside Matt Montgomery. A truncated version of the scene, as well as other never-before-scene clips from the Odyssey pilot are included in the story.
It was a rather unique situation given that GMTV (a UK show) was here filming with their mostly British crew and reporter, as Beo (from Wales) directed, and Matt Montgomery (playing a Welsh character) acted the scene!
More photos from the shoot are available in the
Photo Gallery.
Additionally the full scene with Ross King and Matt Montgomery will be released exclusively to the Monday Night chat on Monday August 13th at 8Pm PST after a special guest chat with Odyssey actor, Mark Ashton Lund.
Best,

Beo will know this but GMTV were the team that did a segment on Intrepid. Lorraine Kelly made it into the HLtC.
Nice one, look forward to seeing it.

I will be long gone to work before it airs, but my hubby is off, so he has instructions to patrol GMTV and tape.

I'm off on Friday, so I'm hoping it's Friday. :)
What...they're giving you a DAY OFF!! What kind of anaesthetic service is this???
GMTV have covered Trek quite a bit over the years, I believe that Eamonn Holmes was a big fan. This will be great publicity for the show.

I took an annual leave day.
Anyway, you're right, this should be great coverage. I'm looking forward to watching it. Now if only the BBC would do a nice big feature on fanfilms. :)

Some pictures from the shoot with GMTV are up in the
photo gallery. More will be added later in the week.
I have also heard they would like to air the piece this week, perhaps as early as Thursday so those with recorders, you might start recording that morning.

I know that the BBC had a phone in quiz controvesy. Didn't ITV and GMTV have its own as well, because they were determining winners before the lines closed.
And wasn't GMTV that cut away from flood coverage to cover Paris Hilton being released?

We've also been promised a copy from the station, but even though I believe their intentions to be good, that often doesn't happen, so it's not a bad idea to find someone with a TIVO. :)

Other than the lighthearted reference to us a "eccentrics" and the caption of "Star Trek Fan Club film" I thought that this was a very positive, very fair look at HF/Odyssey. Hopefully it will let others in the UK know that there still is some Star Trek around. And if they come to us here, they will also probably learn about Intrepid and other productions, too.
And what is really scary.... I feel like I know the inside of Rob's house waaaay to well. It's starting to feel like home.

As always I am ecstatic for the Areakt/HF/Odyssey/HC team. They do some awesome work on their shows. I have watched every episode of Hidden Frontier, and I saw amazing improvement year over year. If this continues, Odyssey and Helena Chronicles should be some more AWESOME Star Trek coming out of that talented group.
It's about time that the fan productions are getting some serious media attention.

That is indeed worrying, I dont feel like that and i've been there ;)
It was a nice piece, I was just starting to think about how its been quite a while since I've seen a media piece that has been insulting to fan films / trekkies and alike just in time for them to call you eccentrics :P
however bear in mind GMTV is aimed towards the lower common denominator, If I woke up in the mornings I'd watch BBC Breakfast :P
and it was nice to see a video of "Simon" with less of a bland face ;)

I knew this was going to be brought up at some point: the only reason I used my birth name of Simon is because I knew my mother and the rest of my family would be watching and scrutinizing - not only have they not seen me in a while, they've also never seen the house or exactly what we do.
I use Beo because it is a personal preference that I ask everyone else to respect, so thank you Drflox for doing so :-)
I am not Rumpelstiltskin; I will not crumble away if you use my real birth given name. But I honestly would prefer it if you didn't. Cheers. :-)

Sorry, Beo, no offence intended. Actually I was wondering if Ross couldn't pronounce your name correctly or something... but thanks for the explanation, and I certainly shan't bring it up again.
