Filming began this past Saturday on Odyssey episode 102, "The Wine Dark Sea", written and directed by Beo Fraser.  At the first shoot was Ross King, the LA correspondent for GMTV as well as Entertainment anchor for the local CW station in Los Angeles.  While we have not heard of it running on CW, there is always a chance it will be picked up by the affiliate.

There is a You Tube version of the segment online, as well as a quicktime version which is available on our Download Mirrors.

In addition to interviewing the cast and crew, Ross King also took on a small role in the episode alongside Matt Montgomery.  A truncated version of the scene, as well as other never-before-scene clips from the Odyssey pilot are included in the story.

It was a rather unique situation given that GMTV (a UK show) was here filming with their mostly British crew and reporter, as Beo (from Wales) directed, and Matt Montgomery (playing a Welsh character) acted the scene!

More photos from the shoot are available in the Photo Gallery.

Additionally the full scene with Ross King and Matt Montgomery will be released exclusively to the Monday Night chat on Monday August 13th at 8Pm PST after a special guest chat with Odyssey actor, Mark Ashton Lund.

Best,

Rob

oooooooooo, juicy news. :)

And he looks like a natural holding that phaser rifle.

Seems I got back to the UK just in time! Noted and will watch! Pity I can't record it though... :(

Beo will know this but GMTV were the team that did a segment on Intrepid.  Lorraine Kelly made it into the HLtC.

Nice one, look forward to seeing it.

This is pretty cool. And for once, we'll actually get to see it air in the UK. :)

They've revised their estimate to "sometime this week".  FWIW.

I will be long gone to work before it airs, but my hubby is off, so he has instructions to patrol GMTV and tape.
Captain Hunter
I'm off on Friday, so I'm hoping it's Friday. :)
SPT
What...they're giving you a DAY OFF!! What kind of anaesthetic service is this???

SPT
GMTV have covered Trek quite a bit over the years, I believe that Eamonn Holmes was a big fan.  This will be great publicity for the show.

I took an annual leave day.

Anyway, you're right, this should be great coverage. I'm looking forward to watching it. Now if only the BBC would do a nice big feature on fanfilms. :)
sabarwolf
Congratulations. :)

I've set my media centre to record them.
When I get home each day, I'll scan through it, and when it's aired, I can edit and share.
SPT
NIFTY!! :D

Some pictures from the shoot with GMTV are up in the photo gallery.  More will be added later in the week.

I have also heard they would like to air the piece this week, perhaps as early as Thursday so those with recorders, you might start recording that morning.

Best,

Rob

The latest from GMTV: "It will air this Friday - as part of the Richard
Arnold Show (part of GMTV). The show airs between 8.35 and 9.20am."

Enjoy!

OK you Brits... get us some bootleg video of this somehow!

I know that the BBC had a phone in quiz controvesy.  Didn't ITV and GMTV have its own as well, because they were determining winners before the lines closed.

And wasn't GMTV that cut away from flood coverage to cover Paris Hilton being released?

We've also been promised a copy from the station, but even though I believe their intentions to be good, that often doesn't happen, so it's not a bad idea to find someone with a TIVO.  :)

I will record this Friday and get clinical photog to transfer to MP4 for Youtube if you want. It will take a few days(because they have real clinical work to do and I'll be begging a favour  :D)

My Media Centre is already set.
But due to going away this weekend, I won't be able to edit and convert till Sunday night.
Let me know what format and resolution you would like it in, and how to send it to you guys.
Beo
Yay GMTV!
Robin
I'm away on Friday morning but I'll have my computer record it. It will be ready to upload somewhere by Saturday morning kind of time, that way :) Looking forward to seeing it.
Rob_C
Glad to see lots of options here.  Keep us posted on your progress!  First one to get it up gets a cookie.  ;-)

They made the same promise to us, but we never did get one. Hopefully you'll get on better dealing with the LA correspondent.

Haha, brilliant segment, Ross King did indeed do a great job... as did both Rob and Beo... and loving our new doc! Sad tho that it was this short ;)
Robin
Just got back to my hotel room to see the last 30 seconds and type this on my mobile... All i have to say, Simon dear, is pot, kettle, pink. ;) Will watch rest and send it to you this evening hopefully! Well done you lot, woo Brit exposure :)

  Rob, please don't make me have to report you to the Forum mods. We try to keep this PG-13.  'Nuff said?
Captain Hunter
I overslept and missed it. Darn it! :(
Beo
I was hoping it would be on the website but it isn't. Did the Intrepid segment come on the web site immediately after or a couple days later?
Dreamscape
Don't worry guys, I have just got the DVD of the sgement and will be posting it on Youtube soon.
Robin
I can do better than that!

Very nice segment!  I loved it.

Thanks, Robin!

"Eccentrics?!"  A bit underhanded there Richard, but not entirely un-true. lol

I was just talking to Beo and said the same thing about the "eccentrics" comment.

See I am always proud to be called an eccentric, it is a badge of honor for me.!

Be warned, if you haven't seen the Youtube copy, there are some key SPOILERS to Odyssey in it.  Yeah!  Hahaha, Mr. Caves.

Colonization of Romulan space....  hmmmm.

Yeah I know big spoileriffic hint of the story line and explanation of why certain people are where they are.

Updated the first post of this thread with links including a Quicktime version.  Thanks again, Robin!  Also to see the full scene with Ross, be sure to join us in the next Monday night chat!

Other than the lighthearted reference to us a "eccentrics" and the caption of  "Star Trek Fan Club film"  I thought that this was a very positive, very fair look at HF/Odyssey.  Hopefully it will let others in the UK know that there still is some Star Trek around.  And if they come to us here, they will also probably learn about Intrepid and other productions, too.

And what is really scary.... I feel like I know the inside of Rob's house waaaay to well.  It's starting to feel like home.

I know, but those heads on the wall (the mask) still always disconcert me for a few seconds.

As always I am ecstatic for the Areakt/HF/Odyssey/HC team. They do some awesome work on their shows. I have watched every episode of Hidden Frontier, and I saw amazing improvement year over year. If this continues, Odyssey and Helena Chronicles should be some more AWESOME Star Trek coming out of that talented group.

It's about time that the fan productions are getting some serious media attention.
Glenn
That's pretty cool :) Worth watching to see the new sets in action...
Nifty clip, nifty scene...

Who was that "Simon" guy anyway? ;)
rockytop62
All I can say is "BRILLIANT!!" to everyone involved.  :D
sffilk
nice clip!

That is indeed worrying, I dont feel like that and i've been there ;)

It was a nice piece, I was just starting to think about how its been quite a while since I've seen a media piece that has been insulting to fan films / trekkies and alike just in time for them to call you eccentrics :P

however bear in mind GMTV is aimed towards the lower common denominator, If I woke up in the mornings I'd watch BBC Breakfast :P

and it was nice to see a video of "Simon" with less of a bland face ;)

I knew this was going to be brought up at some point: the only reason I used my birth name of Simon is because I knew my mother and the rest of my family would be watching and scrutinizing - not only have they not seen me in a while, they've also never seen the house or exactly what we do.

I use Beo because it is a personal preference that I ask everyone else to respect, so thank you Drflox for doing so :-)

I am not Rumpelstiltskin; I will not crumble away if you use my real birth given name. But I honestly would prefer it if you didn't. Cheers. :-)

Beo is the only name I associate with you ever--that is the name I met you as and will be the name I know you as -- isnt that rule of the internet?  and please thnk about the Shirts they would be great! Speaking of it what did Mom and family say?

Sorry, Beo, no offence intended. Actually I was wondering if Ross couldn't pronounce your name correctly or something... but thanks for the explanation, and I certainly shan't bring it up again.
